This is one Bird who is definitely ready to spread his wings
Meet Liam Bird, the latest addition to our team at PJS Consulting Engineers in Nottingham.
Liam is the first of our young undergraduate positions here at PJS and joins us as an Assistant Civil Engineer to work alongside the senior team members.
Liam has been working at AECOM as a Trainee Civil Engineer for the past 3 years within the Strategic Highways Europe Team on the Mersey Gateway Project. In that time, he has been introduced to several disciplines including detailed design of this major infrastructure and in the technical aspects of several different highways disciplines including, Geometry, Road Restraint, Kerbs, Footways & Paved Areas, Fencing, Traffic Signs, Road Markings and Integrated Layouts. Used to working with both contractors and designers, Liam will be a great asset to our team and is proof that Civil Engineering is offering excellent career prospects for young people in the Midlands.
Recruitment is key for any business, but training and investing in the next generation is really important to us at PJS. As civil engineers we have gained our experience through study and work and believe that a rounded education in the business comes from having the opportunity to experience the day to day of the job. Liam will be assisting with a variety of projects at PJS which will give him the opportunity to work alongside each senior member to build his design skills and develop his commercial understanding, helping him to progress as a confident and talented Civil Engineer.
As a student, Liam is currently in the second year of his HNC in Civil Engineering for which he studies one day a week at Chesterfield College. He has already achieved his Level 3 NVQ in Civil Engineering for Technicians, alongside this he has obtained the necessary experience and, with our support, will be pursuing Technician Membership status with ICE.
Just a few weeks in and Liam comments:
“The speed of innovation within the UK construction industry makes me look forward to every new day in Civil Engineering. My greatest satisfaction from working for PJS is that you truly learn something new every day, from problem solving to working efficiently, which will ultimately improve the overall outcome of any project.”

Liam Bird as trainee referee
As well as becoming an Engineer Liam is also a Level 7 football referee, so we are sure he will be well able to handle negotiations and management in the future!
Good luck Liam and welcome to the team.
