Life in Lockdown at PJS

As the pubs and high streets begin to cautiously reopen across the country following the COVID lockdown, we reflect on the changes we have made as a result and life at PJS during lockdown whilst looking forward towards the future.

At PJS, we have always tried to provide flexibility for staff and have therefore been well prepared for work-at-home scenarios however with the anticipated timespan this was of course a little different. To ensure that all of our staff had suitable equipment to continue to work effectively and comfortably monitors, docks, stands and even chairs were packed up and delivered to homes to enable the creation of optimal work at home conditions.

Our new Winking Hill office now hosts only a skeleton crew to ensure that any essential IT continues to run smoothly although we have been hard at work rearranging to allow for social distancing in the workplace and assessing the best way to allow staff to return when it is safe to do so.

Bailey Taberham notes that “It was quite an undertaking to relocate much of the office to individual homes however the benefits of having a suitable work station are immeasurable.

"We have always been forward thinking with our technology and it is critical to have the right tools for the job regardless of location. We are looking forward to getting people back into the office when it is safe to do so although I’m afraid that everyone’s usual spots will have shifted around a bit to ensure a safe distance is maintained.”

Despite working under these unusual conditions, through the hard work and dedication of everyone in the PJS family we have continued to deliver innovative solutions to clients and maintained the strong team mentality that makes us so effective. With construction restarting and sites reopening, we have also been able to bring back members of our Geotechnical team who were temporarily furloughed and a number of projects have progressed to the next stage.

We have also continued to grow our Civils team, welcoming Jacob  into the family and are currently looking to grow further so watch this space for new faces in the coming months. In addition, we have welcomed a new addition of a very different kind to the PJS family and would like to send our warmest congratulations to David and Sam on the birth of their daughter who we have no doubt is a Geotechnical star in the making!

We have maintained our commitment to bringing in and developing both new and emerging Civil Engineers where possible not only with Jacob arriving from the University of Nottingham and new placement students from Nottingham Trent University due to start soon but also with Louis returning to studies part-time on day release to finish his degree and with Jack returning full-time.

With the lockdown now beginning to ease and with all eyes keenly set on the future, we are looking forward to continuing to develop new talent, support our current staff and provide innovative solutions to our clients.

We are all looking forward to returning to a degree of normality however it is important to remember that COVID is likely to remain a real and present threat to many within our community for some time so please, wash your hands, wear a mask, stay home and stay safe.
